For the 4th of July this year, we headed northwest to Fargo! Mommy was in the Red, White and Blue Hot Dam 5K in Minneapolis at 6:30 - so we could not leave until she and Alyssa finished the race. We did not get to Grandma and Papa's after midnight!
We were so excited to see them - we woke up very early. We put on our patriotic apparel, including our fireworks headbands, right away! To keep us busy, Mommy and Grandma took us outside to eat breakfast - and draw on the sidewalk. We drew all kinds of pictures of fireworks and flags, with some help from Mommy and Grandma.
Next, we painted our nails...
Then, Mommy took pictures of us with the matching dresses on our American Girl dolls... before we headed to the parade at Bonanzaville.
We parked a long way away, then waited in line to pay admission. The parade was quite a disappointment after the last few years in Afton - none of us are too sure when we will head back again! However, we did manage to explore a few of the historic buildings and equipment after the parade.
We spent a lot of time in the fire station, asking Daddy lots of questions about the old trucks, water lines, and fire poles.
Then, we headed to the theater - and posed by the bell outside. It was pretty big! We even fit inside!
Right before we left, we took a ride on the mini train - this was likely our favorite part of the entire experience!
We decided to take naps when we got back. As we woke up, we found Grandma's next surprise for us! She got out her slip and slide... we could not figure it out right away. We ended up having Daddy throw us down the slide a few times while we got the hang of it. Then we danced, played, slid and cooled off splashing in the water.
We dried off, and got back into our patriotic gear in time for Aunt Angie and Uncle Tony to arrive. We did snaps with them... and posed with our headbands. Aren't we cute??
Then, Papa and Grandma took us to Dairy Queen for dessert. We rode our scooters outside until it was dark, and then a bit longer since our wheels lit up like the 4th of July! We watched fireworks next door, and all over the sky, from Grandma and Papa's front porch. (The grown-ups decided a drive to Moorhead was a bit too much since we were still tired from the late drive the night before!)
We still love fireworks and parades, and cannot wait to see a few more!
